Louisiana River Parishes

There is something mysterious and moving in the Louisiana River Parishes.

For decades I have loved road trips in the Southeastern USA and especially the States of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. In February 2026 I attended one of the best travel writer’s conferences ever. #STELARiverParishes was all about the amazing area between New Orleans and Baton Rouge near Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

Way down in these Louisiana River Parishes a person can discover all sorts of things, including themselves!

The most important things in this beautiful, beckoning, and bewildering area seem to be deep roots, flavor, history, and adventure. The Louisiana River Parishes of St. Charles, St. John, and St. James are filled with friendly folks who sincerely love sharing their food, music, art, and fun with all who are courageous enough to explore and ask questions.

There the sunrise is spectacular, the sausage is sizzling, and the tummy is tempted. There one can find out the true texture of a bay leaf or a stalk of sugar cane. There locals show you how laughter, friendship, and storytelling are all art forms.

Andouille is a favorite flavorful food that many folks are fond of!
