A few basic facts about Georgia. It became the 4th state on January 2, 1788. The date of Secession January 19, 1861. Readmitted July 15, 1870. The capital city is Atlanta. The state nickname is “The Peach State”. The five largest cities are Atlanta, Columbus, Savannah, Athens, and Sandy Springs. Many, such as me, who attended the University of Georgia love to shout, “Go Dawgs”.
